Giving Notice

In the morning of 29 June 2001, the last business day of my three month probation period, I gave my notice to Asahi that I was resigning.  ButtocksInlet thought my resignation was amusing.  RicePaddyMean was very sad.  He and Mr.  ForestChestnut have since left Asahi.  I was also sad because again, like Rutan, there were attorneys I admired and respected at Asahi, just not as much or as many.
My short employment at Asahi was not peculiar.  The foreign associate who was hired after me was a Mormon hired from Utah.  He worked at Asahi less than six months.  He moved here with his wife and children, and, after leaving Asahi, returned to Utah.  Asahi associates had told me that Asahi had never fired anyone.
FaithDisclose PleasingThree appeared to be receiving Incubator information from Jim Moynihan, Jerry McAlinn, or a similar source.  After I gave notice of my resignation, PleasingThree came to my office to discuss a matter we had completed some time ago.  At least two of the three Asahi associates with whom I shared the office were present.  Apropos of nothing, PleasingThree consulted me regarding how many years moratorium on disclosure we should have on a matter I had worked on for him.  PleasingThree tried to imply my agreement to two or three years.
One of the OriginSun associates laughed openly at PleasingThree’s suggestion.  The American Statutes of Limitations for conspiracy are generally two or three years depending on jurisdiction and offence.  I suspect PleasingThree and others feared being implicated in the upcoming Events of 11 September 2001.  I think the associate found the idea that I could do anything that might harm PleasingThree to be amusing.
Takizawa, whom I had met in New York City, moved back to OriginSun just before I did.  In the afternoon, he was “in the area,” and stopped in to ask if I had time for a cup of coffee.  I discussed my resignation from Asahi with Takizawa during our cup of coffee.  I was not cheerful.
Takizawa reminded me of the political goals Takizawa claimed I had discussed with him in New York.  That evening at the Mister Donuts Bar near my monthly mansion, when I told the regular patrons about quitting, they were all optimistic.  One said OriginSun needed attorneys.  They assured me I would find another job soon.  I had one of those ‘oh my gods, what have I done’ feelings in the pit of my stomach.
Concluding the contract with Asahi required I work at Asahi one month after notification that I wished to terminate the contract.  Therefore, I worked at Asahi until the end of July.  My efforts at finding another job, even an interview, during my last month met with no success.
